Catechetical Institute: Spirituality 3

Recorded on February 16th, 2012.

The session began with a Lectio Divina on Psalm 8, which is quoted in Chapter 3 of “We Pray”, then we reviewed the “ACTS” of prayer, namely:

  1. Adoration
  2. Contrition
  3. Thanksgiving
  4. Supplication

We then had a long discussion of Chapter 4 on Supplication, and what it means when God does or does not answer our prayers, or when God answers prayers in unexpected ways.

The second part of the session was devoted to the Ignatian tradition of spirituality. Unfortunately part of the live recording was lost, so I have rerecorded it at home as best as I can remember it! In this section we review the life of Saint Ignatius, and the basic principles of Ignatian spirituality, especially as expressed in the First Principle and Foundation:

The final part of the discussion continues on the First Principle and Foundation and looks at Ignatius valuable method of daily prayer and discernment, the Examen of Consciousness, note: not ‘Examination of Conscience! That is a very worthy thing, but it is not the same. It is contained in the excellent Catholic Update , Examen of Consciousness: Finding God in All Things:
