Catechetical Institute: Spirituality 4 – Expressions of Prayer

Recorded on March 1st 2012

We began this session with a brief review of our experience of the prayer forms we have learned in the past few sessions, then a quick presentation of Universal Call to Holiness from Lumen Gentium, the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church from Vatican II.

Then we reviewed many ways of praying, including:

  • Three Minute Trinity Prayer
  • Hail Mary for Peace of Soul
  • Meditation
  • Reflective Reading
  • Imaging Prayer
  • Contemplation
  • Centering Prayer
  • The Jesus Prayer
  • Family Prayer

After hearing of all these different forms, the advice is “Pray as you can, not as you can’t”, a saying attributed to St. Dominic.
